As I made the mistake myself during my first stay in Costa Rica, you will naturally think that the airport of San José, JUAN SANTA MARIA (SJO) is in San José? and well lost! It is located in ALAJUELA, 20 km west of the capital.
I strongly advise you to spend your first night in ALAJUELA in a place where you can sleep quietly because the trip lasts 10 hours + jet lag, which means that you will not sleep for 24 hours. Do not neglect your first night's rest, it is crucial!
For 12 years, we have been welcoming our visitors on the heights of Alajuela, in the middle of coffee fields on more than 7000 m2 of tropical garden and forest.
We can also welcome you at the airport and take care of your rental car which will be delivered the next morning on site quietly after your breakfast. From experience, believe me it's nice not to have to drive at night in an unknown city with a vehicle that you have not yet taken in hand.
TACACORI EcoLodge Alajuela is a 15/20-minute drive from the airport, while San José is 55 minutes away without traffic jams.
